Finally I am in a place I have always wanted to be. It took me to go through unhealthy and uncomfortable situations and decisions to get here. But I am here. Thank Jehovah lol. This was quite a busy week which is why I didn’t have a chance to review this amazing book or share this delicious recipe !
The Belles By: Dhonielle Clayton
This book I would have to say is one of the best books I’ve read in the dystopian/fantasy genre and I have read a lot of books. I mean the way it was written was spectacular. This book was about a girl name Camille and she is a Belle. A Belle is a female that are born to make people beautiful. They are given powers from the God of Beauty. They live in a society where people are born grey with red eyes. So after the Royal Court, they are the next important people. They are like plastic surgeons but they can make you look anyway you please with their powers. Camille thought everything was sunshine and flowers until she started working and helping people, she saw the extent people would go just to be beautiful ,how dangerous and how deceitful people can be. The imagery in this book was just so beautiful. Like it had my imagination just going . The colors, the expressions , the story line. It gave you romance, revenge and deceit, it gave you love of trusted friends. It was futuristic where messages come in different color balloons, where live creatures are on dresses and hair pieces. It reminded me of fifth element . It was just amazing. Its a must read. I never read books twice but this is one book that I would definitely read again!
I also made a delicious lemon loaf cake yesterday for a small gathering and I have to tell you, its one of the best cakes I’ve made. I got the recipe from https://www.seasonsandsuppers.ca.
- 1/2 cup butter at room temperature
- 1 cup white sugar (I used light brown sugar)
- 3 large eggs at room temperature
- 2 Tbsp lemon zest from about 1 large lemon(I was’nt able to get this amount of lemon zest but I got enough)
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice(I added maybe 3 tablespoons of lemon juice to get that delicious lemon taste)
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp table salt
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup sour cream removed from fridge 15 minutes before using
- 1/2 cup icing/confectioners’ sugar
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice plus more, as needed
I mixed up the butter and sugar first. You beat that until it gets a nice light color and when its smooth. I then added in one egg at a time and then beat it until its mixed fully. Repeat the process with the rest of the eggs. Then I added in the lemon juice and vanilla extract and then I added in the flour and then the sour cream. The recipe calls for you to add in the flour 1/3 cup at a time then the sour cream and then repeating the process until everything is mixed in but I just added it all in and the batter was beautiful smooth and thick.
I didnt use parchment paper, I just used my non stick bread/loaf pan and put butter in the pan and put my batter in. My cake took about 50 minutes to make because my mother turned off the oven in the middle of it cooking lol. But I would just watch it and put an alarm on for 40 minutes then check it. I let the cake cool for about 15 20 minutes then added the glaze. I served it while it was still warm. And today it is all gone lol. I will def be doing this recipe again. Its simple and so delicious!
I hope you guys are having a good Monday !
